How to Generate Links for the Site

SEO Home | Previous | Next

There are 4 ways to get links to your site. They are from directories, Reciprocal links, purchasing links and content donations.

Dmoz and other directories: Dmoz is the biggest online directory till date! It is maintained by more than 60,000 volunteer editors. Obtaining a link in this directory is very valuable. But to get listed in Dmoz is very difficult. First of all it is maintained by human editors and that too volunteers. Hence they may not be devoted to this job. There are lots of categories within the directory that do not have editors. So many submissions go unlooked until someone reviews it. So it can take almost a year to get listed in Dmoz. Other than Dmoz, there are lots of other directories. But no one create the value as like Dmoz.

Reciprocal Links: Reciprocal links are based on an agreement by two sites to link to each other. Reciprocal linking is often used by small/midsize sites as an inexpensive way to increase Web site traffic and link popularity. Reciprocal links are also known as "link swaps", "link exchanges" and "link partners". This is a kind of referral program, where we refer our customers to other companies when we don’t have what they want.

Purchasing Links: Link purchasing is done when a company is not in a position to exchange the links. For example, if you have a website but can’t link it to other site due to some reasons then you can ask others to link to your site by paying certain amount of money. The charge varies according to the page rank of the site.
The higher the page rank of your site, you can ask for more money. Putting it in short, it’s a monetary transaction for placing link in good ranked web site.

Content Donation: Sometimes experts in the company submit articles to different web sites. And thus can put a link on that website. It’s a very effective in a way that you can put your knowledge in front of thousands of people and attract them to your site. Here the web sites exchange links for the content you are providing. Thus the site becomes content rich and also you can get fair amount of exposure.
