The first method is to submit your site to relevant directories and/or industry specific expert sites (recommended by Google). We have been experimenting with literally thousands of directories to narrow down a short list of quality (human-edited) directories whose listings have proven to appear as valid back links within the major search engines. Other ways to encourage websites to link to you naturally (without exchanging links or paying for a link), would be to educate them about your products and services through press releases and relevant article distributions. We have found great success in using all of these methods.
